The Grant in Aid Policy for the District of Highlands outlines the procedures and criteria for providing financial assistance to charitable and non-profit organizations within the community. Here are the key points:
- Purpose:
- The policy aims to support organizations that provide valuable services to the residents of Highlands.
- It emphasizes that while the District is not obligated to fund these organizations, it will consider complete applications for grants on an annual basis.
- Eligible Organizations:
- Organizations contributing to the general interest and advantage of the District.
- Bodies advancing municipal affairs or celebrating events of public interest.
- Boards of Trade, Chambers of Commerce, tourist associations, arts or cultural centers, societies organizing public exhibitions or contests, and other related organizations.
- Application Guidelines:
- Grants are subject to the availability of funds within the District’s Annual Operating Budget.
- The maximum grant amount is determined by the District’s latest Federal Government census multiplied by a per capita rate of $0.50.
- Grants are intended for "not for profit" organizations providing direct benefits to the citizens of the District.
- Applications must be submitted by February 28 of each year, and applicants may present their case to the Council.
- Application Form:
- The form requires detailed information about the organization, including its history, objectives, services provided, intended use of funds, and financial statements.
- Funding Conditions:
- Approved grants will be issued in July each year.
- Unused grant funds must be refunded to the District.
- The Council reserves the right to discontinue funding to specific organizations.
This policy ensures that community projects and services continue to thrive by providing necessary financial support while encouraging organizations to be self-sufficient
