The District of Highlands is seeking a FireSmart Coordinator to join our team.  Reporting to the Fire Chief/Emergency Coordinator, the applicant will possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills as well as have strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to plan, organize, develop and implement action plans.  

The FireSmart Coordinator will be the primary point of contact for the District’s FireSmart Program and is responsible for delivering wildfire risk reduction and safety initiatives tailored to community needs. The role supports wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation efforts within the District of Highlands by engaging residents through public education, coordinating community events, and supporting FireSmart activities that promote safer homes and neighbourhoods. 

What You Bring 

Ideally, you will have postsecondary education in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with at least one year of experience supporting community programs, public education or outreach, or emergency preparedness, and experience working with rural or wildland–urban interface communities while building effective partnerships. 

You will have experience delivering FireSmart, wildfire mitigation, emergency preparedness, or community resilience initiatives, conducting home or site assessments and risk assessments, and preparing clear summary reports.  

This is a temporary part-time position of up to 1134 hours with the possibility of extension. The rate of pay for this position is $45.16 per hour plus 11% in lieu.
