Council meetings during COVID-19
Highlands Council met on March 16, 2020 and, with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic, Council resolved to meet only once per month during the pandemic (on the first Monday of the month). The next Council meeting will be held on April 6, 2020.
On March 26, 2020 Ministerial Order M083 was issued. Contained in those Orders were tools for Local Government to use in order to function during this pandemic. Under these Orders local governments are able to hold Council meetings without the public present, to meet electronically and to give a bylaw three readings and adoption in the same day.
At this time, Council meetings will be held electronically. It is possible for the District to ‘invite’ a limited number of people to observe the meeting electronically using the Application called “Zoom”. If you would be interested in joining the Council meeting to observe please contact the District directly, prior to 12:00 pm on the meeting day, at: firstname.lastname@example.org and staff will inform how this will occur. Although it is possible for members of the public to ‘attend’ a Council meeting electronically, we would encourage you to communicate with Council by forwarding any comments regarding an agenda item in writing via email at email@example.com or via Canada Post – District of Highlands, 1980 Millstream Road, Victoria, BC, V9B 6H1.
